ARRANGEMENT:

DESCRIPTION: "A proper record shall be maintained reflecting the ownership of the property, and the case or cases for which it was taken or received and is being held" (UCA 77-24-1). The records include property receipts given to owner when property taken, receipts for returned property, logs, or files. A returned property receipt "shall be taken from [owner] listing in detail the property returned" (UCA 77-24-5). If property is not claimed by owner after three months from notification and nine days after public notice of disposal in a local newspaper, the department is then authorized to "sell at public auction" (UCA 77-24-4).
